Despite diversifying its lineup with SUVs and EVs, Jaguar hasn’t given up on its sports car, the F-Type, which was given a mid-life cycle refresh late last year.
The 2021 F-Type brings a new front end with a bigger grille, slimmer headlamps and redesigned bumper, as well as new taillights.
Adorned with premium materials, the cockpit remains largely the same, though it does feature a new infotainment system with smartphone integration that supports over-the-air updates, and a 12.3-inch customizable digital instrument cluster.
The range-topper is the F-Type R, which was the one put to the test by Kelley Blue Book, and is powered by Jag’s familiar supercharged 5.0-liter V8. It produces 575 HP at 6,500 rpm and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque from 3,500 to 5,000 rpm. It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to drive all four wheels, sprints to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and hits a 186 mph (300 km/h) top speed.
The F-Type R Coupe starts at $103,200, while the F-Type R-Dynamic Coupe, which is powered by a 380 HP 3.0-liter V6, is 1.4 seconds slower to 60 and maxes out at 171 mph (275 km/h), can be had from $81,800. It too comes withall-wheel drive, unlike the base F-Type Coupe and F-Type First Edition that are rear-wheel drive and pack a 2.0-liter turbo-four that makes 296 HP. Both models take 5.4 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill and have a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed. Pricing starts at $61,600 and $73,100 respectively.
The F-Type is an alternative to the Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT and Lexus LC, but should it be the one to go for?
